Alexander Skarsgård Turns Heads with Bold Red Carpet Look Amidst Discussion of new Film’s Intimate Scenes
LONDON – Alexander Skarsgård made a striking statement on the London red carpet, opting for a backless ensemble that drew attention as he continues promoting his upcoming film, Pillion. The appearance arrives alongside ongoing conversation surrounding the film’s explicit depiction of a dominant-submissive relationship adn Skarsgård’s own reflections on exploring sexuality on screen.
Pillion, directed by Harry Lighton and based on Adam Mars-Jones’ novel Box Hill, has already garnered notable buzz following a seven-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film festival. The film centers on the complex dynamic between two men, portrayed by Skarsgård and Harry Melling (Harry potter, The Queen’s Gambit), and delves into themes of power, vulnerability, and intimacy. Skarsgård has spoken openly about the importance of authenticity in portraying this subculture, stating at the Zurich Film Festival, according to Variety, “I found that in this case, my background didn’t really matter…For me, what mattered was that it seemed to be an opportunity to tell a story about a subculture that I’d never seen portrayed in such a way, with such authenticity.”
Skarsgård previously discussed the nuances of representing a dominant-submissive dynamic with Vanity Fair, noting, “you can’t just apply the kind of the sub-dom structure to every relationship.” He emphasized the collaborative process with Melling, stating, “It was just critically importent for us to figure out what worked for us, in between Harry and myself. I knew that it was going to be graphic, and Harry was very clear on his vision for it-when and how nudity was going to be depicted. I felt that it really served the story, and it made sense to me.” Pillion is slated for theatrical release next February.
