The project boasts a remarkable ensemble cast including Nicholas Hoult, Aaron taylor-Johnson, Ciarán Hinds, Thandiwe Newton, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Hunter schafer, Daryl McCormack, George MacKay, Paul Bettany, and Owen Cooper, the 15-year-old Emmy Award winner for his performance in Netflix’s “Adolescence.”
“Cry to Heaven” centers on the story of two unlikely collaborators – a Venetian noble and a castrated maestro from Calabria – navigating the world of opera. The source material has been praised for its “bold and erotic” depiction of a “fascinating and little-known world,” according to reviews from The New York Times and The Washington Post.
This marks a continued shift for Ford, who previously directed the oscar-nominated “A Single Man” and the thriller “Nocturnal Animals.” In a 2023 interview with GQ, Ford stated his desire to focus on filmmaking, saying, ”I loved making the two films that I made… That was the most fun I’ve ever had in my entire life. I’m 62. Hopefully, I’ll remain somewhat together until 82. So I wanna spend the next 20 years of my life making films.”
Adele previously considered an acting role in Xavier Dolan’s “The Death and Life of John F. donovan,” following their collaboration on the “Hello” music video, stating she “would be in a film for him, definitely.” However, while a song of hers appeared in the film, she ultimately did not take on an acting role. That film received a 19% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Adele recently concluded a string of sell-out shows in Munich and has announced an indefinite break from music.
“Cry to Heaven” joins a growing list of adaptations inspired by the works of Anne rice, including recent television series such as “Interview with the Vampire” and “Mayfair Witches.” Production will take place in both London and Rome.
