DIfE Highlights Research Advances in Annual Report for 2023-2024
Potsdam-Rehbrücke, Germany - The German Institute for Nutritional Research Potsdam-Rehbrücke (DIfE) has released its annual report covering 2023 and 2024, showcasing key research findings and institute activities under the theme “Explore nutrition. Strengthen health.” The report details advancements across DIfE’s three core research areas: “Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes“, “Nutrition and Aging”, and “Food Selection and precision Nutrition.”
The annual report, presented in a magazine format, spotlights research into epigenetics and the influence of diet on gene activity, the impact of micronutrients on healthy aging, and the effects of maternal nutrition on child brain development – specifically, fetal programming. Further research results addressing socially relevant topics are also summarized.
Beyond research, the report reviews importent institute events from the past two years, including the establishment of two Heisenberg professorships, a visit from former Federal Chancellor Olaf scholz, a public open day, and the inaugural doctoral symposium featuring geneticist Prof. Giles Yeo from Cambridge.
The report also acknowledges the 30th anniversary of the EPIC Potsdam study, DIfE’s participation in the NAKO health study, and the success of its public outreach programs, “Science on the Spree” and ”Look into the Unknown: The Beauty and Complexity of the Brain.” Progress toward sustainability is also highlighted,with the “DIfEzero2035” pilot project aiming for climate-neutral research operations by 2035.
