Copilot on Windows: Email & Document Creation Updates

Microsoft’s Copilot ⁤on Windows Gains Access⁢ to Email, Document Creation⁢ Capabilities

Redmond, WA – october ⁣10, 2024 – Microsoft is‌ expanding teh functionality of Copilot ⁣on Windows, enabling connections to ‌popular‌ email and cloud ⁤storage ⁣services and adding the ability to generate and export Office documents directly ⁣from user prompts. The‌ updates, currently rolling out to Windows Insiders, aim to make the AI assistant a more integrated and productive‍ tool for ‌everyday ‍tasks.

Users can now ‌opt-in to connect Copilot to OneDrive, Outlook, Google Drive, Gmail, Google ‌Calendar, and Google⁢ Contacts through the copilot Windows⁣ app’s ‍settings. This allows Copilot to search and retrieve information from these services in response to user queries. Furthermore, Copilot can now create ⁣editable Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or‌ PDF⁣ files from responses exceeding 600 characters,‍ triggered‌ by prompts like ⁣”Export this text to a ‌Word document” or ⁢”Create an ‌Excel file from this ⁤table.”

“Just ⁢ask Copilot, ‘Export this text to a ‌Word ‌document’ or ‘Create an Excel file from this table,’ and‌ Copilot will create the file for‌ you,” Microsoft stated‌ in a Thursday blog post. “With ⁣just a prompt, you can instantly turn ideas, notes, and data ‌into shareable and editable documents with no extra steps or tools required.”

The rollout is gradual, meaning not all Windows Insider⁤ Program participants‍ will receive⁣ the updates immediately. Microsoft‍ is actively soliciting feedback‍ through ⁣the‍ Copilot app’s‌ profile icon, encouraging users to ⁣submit their thoughts.

These updates follow ‍recent expansions of Copilot’s capabilities, including the release of content-aware copilot Chat to Microsoft 365 apps like Word and Excel for⁤ business customers, and the launch ⁤of the Gaming Copilot for Windows 11 users aged 18‌ and⁣ older.
