“The Social Reckoning” ‌set for⁣ october 2026 ⁣Release, Details Emerging on Facebook Files Sequel

LOS ANGELES, CA – A sequel too the Academy Award-winning The social Network is officially moving forward, with Sony Pictures announcing today a release date ⁢of October 9, 2026, and the film’s title: The Social Reckoning. The film will delve into ⁢the controversies surrounding Facebook, now Meta, ⁣focusing on the revelations‍ contained within the “Facebook Files.”

The project reunites Aaron Sorkin, who​ penned the original ‍film’s celebrated screenplay (winning an Oscar in 2011), as both writer and director. Filming ‌is slated to begin in October 2025.

Leading the cast⁢ is Oscar winner ‍ Mikey Madison (Euphoria), portraying Frances Haugen, the former ‌Facebook product manager who leaked internal documents to the press.joining her is ⁢Golden Globe winner Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), playing Wall Street Journal journalist Jeff⁢ Horwitz, who partnered with Haugen to⁤ expose the company’s practices. ‍The cast also includes Grammy and Emmy-nominated comedian Bill Burr (Old Dads) and⁢ Oscar nominee‌ Jeremy Strong (Succession), who will portray Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

The Social Reckoning is described as a⁢ “thematic sequel” set approximately 20 years after Facebook’s founding.The‍ plot ⁢centers on‍ haugen‌ seeking Horwitz’s help⁣ to bring to light internal research revealing Facebook’s ​awareness of ‌the‌ harmful effects of its platform. Thes⁣ effects include the spread of disinformation, fake news, ​the ‍amplification⁢ of political violence, and the negative impact on the mental health of children and adolescents. The story is based on the series of articles Horwitz published ‌in 2021 detailing ⁤the “Facebook Files.”

Sorkin will produce ⁢the film alongside todd Black, Peter rice, and Stuart Besser.

This sequel promises to revisit the ‍complex legacy​ of Facebook, shifting focus from its origins to the ethical and societal consequences of its​ global​ dominance.
