BREAKING: President Trump announces Plans to Award Rudy Giuliani presidential Medal of Freedom Following New Hampshire Car Crash
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump announced today his intention to award Rudy Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, following a car crash Sunday evening on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire that left the former New york City mayor wiht injuries.
Giuliani sustained a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations and contusions, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg in the incident. He was a passenger in a ford Bronco driven by his spokesperson, Ted Goodman, when their vehicle was struck from behind by a Honda HR-V driven by a 19-year-old woman. The collision caused both vehicles to hit the highway median, resulting in “heavily damaged” vehicles, according to New Hampshire state Police.
Troopers witnessed the crash and provided immediate assistance. Goodman and the 19-year-old driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospitals for treatment. Giuliani was taken to a nearby trauma center.Michael Ragusa, Giuliani’s head of security, released a statement on X stating that Giuliani “sustained injuries but is in good spirits and recovering tremendously.” Ragusa also affirmed that “this was not a targeted attack.”
Prior to the accident, Ragusa stated, Giuliani had been approached by a woman who was the victim of a domestic violence incident and contacted police on her behalf. The crash occurred shortly after their vehicle re-entered the highway following the completion of assisting the woman, an incident Ragusa described as “entirely unrelated” to the collision.
State police confirmed they were investigating a domestic violence report on the southbound lanes of Interstate 93 shortly before the 10 p.m. crash on the northbound lanes. The agency declined to comment on Giuliani’s reported involvement in the domestic violence matter. No charges have been filed in connection with the crash, which remains under inquiry.
The President’s announcement comes despite recent legal challenges faced by giuliani. He faced a $148 million defamation judgment after two former Georgia election workers sued him, and was found in contempt of court during proceedings to collect the judgment. He ultimately reached a settlement allowing him to retain his homes and belongings, including World Series rings,in exchange for unspecified compensation and a commitment to cease making disparaging statements about the election workers.
Giuliani rose to prominence as “America’s mayor” for his leadership following the September 11,2001,attacks. he later served as trump’s personal attorney and became a prominent advocate for Trump’s claims of fraud in the 2020 election.
The White House has not yet announced a date for the Medal of Freedom ceremony.
