“Fans Speculate on the Design of the New DCU Batman’s Eyes”

While very little is known about the DCU bat ManHis fans have already begun to speculate about his design. One particular feature of interest has been Batman’s eyes.

In the comics and animated adaptations, Batman’s eyes are obscured by white eye covers as part of his cowl. However, this detail has not been included in live-action Batman movies, with the exception of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, in which Christian Bale’s Batman briefly wears white goggles attached to his cowl that allow him to see through the wall. With the announcement that a new DCU Batman will appear on the big screen as part of James Gunn’s plans for the new phase of DC movies and TV shows, some fans are hoping for a change in this trend.

In a Reddit thread on the r/DC_Cinematic subreddit, fans gave their thoughts on the upcoming live-action Batman making use of expressive, moving eye lenses like those seen on the likes of Deadpool and Spider-Man. User u/MaveRickMarvels expressed his support, saying, “This might be something you guys should seriously consider to keep things new and fresh (in terms of visuals and aesthetics). We’ve had so many different live-action Batman looks. More comic book features like white eyes in a more fantastical, upbeat universe could help the DCU’s Bats stand out better from the crowd, especially when there’s another relevant Batman that’s darker and grounded in realism.” Others who supported this design change referenced the likes of The Mandalorian and Darth Vader, stating that although both characters have completely blacked out faces, both characters have still left an impact and connected with the public.

While support for this design change was overwhelming, some fans weren’t sure. Some just didn’t think live-action iterations of Batman looked good with moving white eyes, while others weren’t fans of any live-action character design. Regarding Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool design, user u/loserys wrote: “I feel like Deadpool works mostly because he’s such an over-the-top comic character. Those movies still drop the mask every time things slow down and Ryan Reynolds has to actually act in his place.” .”

With no cast or release date announcements, it’s clear the DCU’s next Batman is still in its formative stages. Perhaps fan feedback will be taken into account, just like in other recent movies like Sonic the Hedgehog. Or maybe this Batman continues the tradition of applying thick layers of eyeliner before taking on Gotham City’s criminals. Either way, the Caped Crusader will undoubtedly feature some unique design element to set him apart from the many versions of Batman that have come before.
