Telecommunications company Smart Communications has requested an extension to the mandatory SIM registration deadline in the Philippines. Smart and TNT will send a formal letter of request to the National Telecommunications Commission and the Department of Information and Communications Technology. Subscribers have just over a week to register their SIMs or face deactivation of mobile services. Smart and TNT currently have an average of 46% of their total subscribers registered, making it difficult to enforce the compulsory move. Globes Telecom has also urged the government to consider extending the deadline.
