West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil has announced that he will not run for the 2024 Presidential Election, and instead will focus on running as the incumbent in future gubernatorial elections. Kamil cited the previous decision of his political party, the Golkar Party, to endorse Airlangga Hartarto for the presidential candidacy, and stated that he would respect the party’s decision as a new member. Despite the fact that he has been included in polls as one of the top four potential candidates for the presidency, Kamil stated that he would not run due to his loyalty to Golkar and his commitment to serving as a regional leader. He acknowledged that his popularity was a result of his hard work in community service over the past decade.
