Japanese model Yano Shiho recently revealed details of her health-focused lifestyle while living in South Korea, including her adoption of a “macrobiotic” diet. The revelation came during a discussion of her daily routine, according to reports from the Chosun Ilbo.
Shiho, 49, showcased her cooking process in a video shared online, emphasizing the principles of macrobiotic cuisine. The diet, which focuses on whole grains and vegetables, is a key component of her wellness regimen, she explained. The model also discussed her skincare routine, highlighting a preference for affordable Korean beauty products purchased at Olive Young, a popular Korean drugstore chain.
In a video titled “Not sponsored — The Auntie Treasure Store I Always Visit in Korea,” Shiho stated she and other Japanese nationals frequently visit Olive Young when in Korea, seeking out specific items. She specifically mentioned a discounted gua sha tool, which she uses daily, and inexpensive sheet masks, purchasing those priced around 1,000 won (approximately $0.75 USD) each. She indicated a preference for consistency in skincare over expensive products.
The model’s endorsement of the affordable skincare products has garnered attention, with medical experts noting the potential benefits of gua sha for reducing puffiness and improving circulation. However, dermatologists caution against overuse, warning of potential damage to capillaries and skin barriers.
Shiho’s comments came during a broader discussion of her life in Korea, alongside South Korean actor Park Shin-yang, on the television program “Fun Tonight,” as reported by the Chosun Ilbo. The program featured the two stars sharing unexpected aspects of their lives.
Separately, reports surfaced earlier this month that Shiho revealed her husband, Choo Sung-hoon, is experiencing symptoms akin to menopause. The revelation was made while discussing her macrobiotic diet and its potential health benefits.
