Tyrese Gibson Faces Animal Cruelty Charge Following Dog Mauling
Fulton County, GA – Actor Tyrese Gibson has been booked on a charge of animal cruelty following a dog mauling that injured a woman in Atlanta on Wednesday, according to a police report. The incident involved several of gibson’s Cane Corso dogs, a breed known for its protective instincts.
The woman was walking her dog when she was attacked by Gibson’s dogs, sustaining injuries requiring hospitalization. Police had received prior reports of Gibson’s dogs running loose in the neighborhood, with at least five instances documented in recent months. Gibson was issued a warning on September 7 and a notice regarding a special permit required for owning more than 10 dogs, though the total number of dogs owned by Gibson remains unclear.
gibson was out of town when the attack occured, his attorney Gabe Banks stated in a post on Gibson’s Instagram account. Banks said Gibson “accepts full duty for his dogs” and has as rehomed two of them and found “safe and loving homes” for thier three puppies.
“After nearly 40 years of being a passionate dog lover… my dogs have only ever been treated as family,” Gibson said in a seperate Instagram post. ”They’ve never been trained to harm, never spent a single day in attack or protection training, and they’ve grown up playing with kids and smaller dogs in my home. That’s why this incident has left me shocked, devastated, and heartbroken for the family affected.”
A search warrant was executed at Gibson’s home the day after the attack, but he and the dogs were not present.
The american Kennel Club describes the Cane Corso as “smart, trainable, and of noble bearing,” but emphasizes that “responsible breeding and early socialization with people and other dogs is vital” for the breed, which is known as a guardian dog.
