Trump-Xi Talks Delayed: China Tech & Trade Concerns Rise | USCBC Update

The planned summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping has been delayed, according to reports emerging Thursday, as the U.S. Government works to strengthen its negotiating position. The delay comes as the House of Representatives expresses increasing concern over China’s advancements in robotics and pharmaceuticals.

The U.S.-China Business Council (USCBC) confirmed the postponement, noting that invitations to U.S. Business leaders for a delegation accompanying President Trump have not yet been issued. USCBC President Sean Stein recently indicated to The New York Times the expectation of a “robust delegation,” suggesting the delay impacts logistical preparations for such a group.

Mohamed Mouseddad, commenting on LinkedIn, highlighted a message from the American business community and institutional leaders expressing readiness for engagement, but stressed the necessitate for “crystal-clear communication” and de-escalation as prerequisites for meaningful progress. Mouseddad’s post emphasized the recognition among a “significant majority” of American individuals and institutions that a stable U.S.-China relationship is crucial for the global economy.

The USCBC is currently preparing to host its 2026 China Operations Conference & Reception in Beijing on March 27th, a forum intended to foster policy and business discussions. This event, described as the USCBC’s “flagship” in Beijing, will be followed by a networking reception.

Simultaneously, concerns are growing within the U.S. Government regarding China’s competitive edge in key technological sectors. The House of Representatives has reportedly sounded alarms specifically regarding robotics and the pharmaceutical industry, though details of those concerns remain exclusive to USCBC members, according to recent reports.

Sarah Beran, a partner at Macro Advisory Partners, was interviewed by the USCBC earlier this month regarding potential Chinese reactions following a meeting with President Trump, suggesting anticipation of a limited response from the Chinese side. The USCBC is likewise hosting a new event, “Trump-Xi Summit: American Leadership & Strategic Stability,” with a new date yet to be announced.
