Apple to Scale Back iPhone Air Production Amidst strong Demand for iPhone 17
CUPERTINO, CA – Apple is reportedly adjusting its iPhone production plans, signaling a potential cut to the iPhone Air model while ramping up output for the forthcoming iPhone 17 series, according to a new report from Japanese investment firm Mizuho Securities. The move comes as initial orders for the iPhone Air have fallen short of the company’s expectations.
this production shift highlights Apple’s responsiveness to market demand and provides insight into consumer preferences as the tech giant prepares for its next generation of devices. While the iPhone Air may see a reduction in assembly, the anticipated success of the iPhone 17 – and its Pro variants – suggests Apple is poised for a strong product cycle.
Mizuho Securities forecasts Apple will decrease iPhone Air production by one million units this year. Together, production of the othre three iPhone 17 models will each be increased by two million units by year’s end. Looking ahead, Apple plans to manufacture 94 million units of the iPhone 17 series starting next year, a jump from the previously planned 88 million.
The report also indicates the base iPhone 17 model is expected to outperform its iPhone 16 predecessor, and the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are projected to exceed the production numbers of last year’s Pro models.
The news arrives as the industry continues to grapple with the trade-offs inherent in smartphone design. While consumers frequently enough favor sleek, thin devices, these designs frequently necessitate compromises, most notably in battery capacity and, consequently, device autonomy.
