Venezuelan Opposition Leader Claims Maduro Officials Secretly Negotiating with U.S.
CARACAS – Venezuelan opposition leader maría Corina Machado alleges that members of President Nicolás Maduro’s inner circle are engaged in secret negotiations with the United States, despite public tensions between the two governments. Machado described the Maduro regime as a “complex criminal conglomerate that represents a real threat to the national security of the United States” in a recent interview.
The allegations come as the Venezuelan government claimed to have informed a “European Embassy” to relay a message to washington regarding an alleged plot to attack the U.S. embassy in Caracas. The U.S. State Department has not evaluated the alleged plan and has maintained no diplomatic presence in Venezuela as 2019, when all staff were withdrawn and operations suspended. All consular services remain suspended.
Machado’s claims suggest a potential rift within the Maduro government, with some officials seeking dialog with the U.S. despite the president’s anti-American rhetoric. The U.S. government prioritizes the security of its citizens abroad and does not recommend travel to Venezuela “under any circumstances.” The situation underscores the ongoing political instability in Venezuela and the complex dynamics between the Maduro regime and the international community.
