Jakarta, Indonesia – The price of pure ethanol (E100), intended for use as a 10% fuel mixture (E10) in Indonesia starting in 2027, is approximately IDR 16,000 per liter, according to Professor Ronny Purwadi of the Food Engineering Study Programme at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Professor Ronny, speaking in Kuningan, South Jakarta, clarified that this price refers to anhydrous ethanol – a nearly pure form wiht 99.5% ethanol content and only 0.5% water. He explained that incorporating 10% ethanol into fuel, creating E10,would add roughly IDR 1,600 to the cost per liter of gasoline.
“That’s the price of ethanol for fuel, that’s E100 which is anhydrous,” Professor Ronny stated.”Yes, that’s right (10 percent of IDR 16 thousand), the impact is not too high but if it’s a lot it can be felt.” He added that the exact price can fluctuate depending on the raw material used in production, citing cassava as an example with a similar net price of around IDR 16,000 per liter.
The Indonesian government, under Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia, is aiming to implement the E10 fuel mandate by 2027, pending the readiness of domestic ethanol production facilities. Minister Bahlil emphasized the policy’s importance in reducing Indonesia’s reliance on gasoline imports, which currently total 27 million tons annually.
The government is prioritizing the construction of ethanol plants to support the E10 program and achieve greater energy independence.
