Switzerland’s Xenia Schwaller led her team to an 11th consecutive victory at the World Women’s Curling Championship in Calgary on Tuesday, defeating Sweden 7-3, according to reports from RTS.ch.
The win solidifies Switzerland’s dominant run through the round robin stage of the tournament, currently underway at the WinSport Event Centre. Schwaller, 23, skips a team comprised of Selina Gafner, Fabienne Rieder, and Selina Rychiger, representing the Grasshopper Club Zurich.
This marks a significant moment for the Swiss team, having secured the national championship title in February, defeating the Olympic silver medal-winning team skipped by Silvana Tirinzoni, 2-1 in a best-of-three series. The victory earned them a spot at the World Championships, taking place from March 14-22 in Calgary, Canada.
The team’s success follows Xenia Schwaller’s 2024 World Junior Curling Championship victory, where her team went undefeated. According to TSN.ca, this is the first time Schwaller has represented Switzerland at the World Women’s Curling Championships.
Meanwhile, on the men’s side, Marco Hoesli’s team also secured the Swiss national championship, defeating Yannick Schwaller’s team in three games. Yannick Schwaller is a cousin to Xenia Schwaller and has previously skipped Switzerland at four men’s world competitions, achieving silver in 2025 and bronze in 2023.
Canada’s Kerri Einarson suffered her first loss of the tournament on Tuesday, falling 6-5 to Schwaller’s Swiss team, as reported by MSN. Einarson’s team had previously won five straight games at the championship.
The Swiss championships, held February 23-28 in Bern, saw both Team Schwaller and Team Hoesli overcome the teams that had recently competed at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics. The win for Team Schwaller ended a run of Swiss representation at the World Championships by Team Tirinzoni, who had competed in six consecutive championships.
