XR Games & obstinate Announce “Smash Eat Grow,” a Destructive VR Multiplayer Game
XR Games, developers of Hitman 3 VR Reloaded and Zombieland VR, is partnering with newly-formed studio Obstinate to launch the free-to-play multiplayer VR game, Smash Eat Grow. The game is slated for Early Access on Quest “soon,” though a specific release date remains unconfirmed.
Smash Eat Grow casts players as ravenous alien creatures called Smashers, tasked with exploring and demolishing a fully edible version of Earth. Players will compete to become the largest Smasher by consuming everything in sight – including smaller Smashers – utilizing actions like punching, grabbing, wielding, throwing, and eating.
According to a press release, XR Games and obstinate plan to continually expand Smash Eat Grow based on player feedback, with future updates including new maps, game modes, Smasher types, powers, and customization options.
“This game has been a dream of mine for years – to let players step into the skin of an alien Smasher in VR and compete in a fully destructible and interactive city with their friends,” saeid Storm Griffith, Founder and CEO of Obstinate.Griffith previously served as Lead Level Designer on the tactical shooter Onward before establishing Obstinate last year.
