Walmart is currently offering significant discounts on Nvidia GeForce RTX 40-series graphics cards, with some models seeing price reductions of up to $482, according to recent tracking by Tom’s Hardware’s GPU index.
The price of a PNY GeForce RTX 4080 Super Verto, for example, has fallen from $1,501 to $1,019 within the last 24 hours, bringing it just $20 above its original manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). Similar reductions have been observed across the RTX 4070 Ti Super, RTX 4070 Super, and RTX 4070 lines. The RTX 4070 Ti Super has dropped $450 to its original MSRP, even as the RTX 4070 Super is now $319 cheaper than yesterday’s lowest price and $20 below MSRP.
This influx of discounted RTX 40-series cards comes as Nvidia’s latest GeForce RTX 50-series (Blackwell) GPUs face price increases due to a persistent memory shortage, creating a substantial price gap between the generations. The RTX 5070, the most affordable model in the new series, currently sells for $629, a 9% premium over the RTX 4070 Super, despite offering only marginally better performance.
The price adjustments at Walmart position the retailer as a key destination for gamers seeking value in a volatile market. The move is likely a response to both the high prices and limited availability of the RTX 50-series, and potentially lower overall demand as consumers hesitate to upgrade due to inflated prices on other PC components like SSDs, and RAM.
While Nvidia has extended some of its technologies, such as DLSS 4.5, to the Ada Lovelace architecture, certain features remain exclusive to the Blackwell series. For instance, Multi-Frame Generation operates up to 6X on Blackwell GPUs but is limited to 2X on the RTX 40-series.
Despite being a previous generation, the RTX 40-series cards offer a compelling value proposition, particularly for those looking to upgrade from older 30-series cards. The GeForce RTX 4060 has unexpectedly increased in price, bucking the trend of discounts seen across other models, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the current graphics card market.
