Poundland to Close 12 Stores Across the UK This Month
breaking: Discount retailer Poundland is closing 12 stores across the UK this month as part of a wider restructuring plan, impacting bargain hunters nationwide. The closures follow the acquisition of the chain by investment firm Gordon Brothers for £1 in June,triggering a program to streamline operations.
Poundland initiated a plan to close 68 stores and two warehouses in an effort to secure the future of the buisness. Having previously closed 57 stores by September 28th, with 11 closures temporarily paused, the company is now proceeding with a further 12 closures throughout October.
The restructuring began with Poundland operating 800 stores and aims to leave the company with a network of between 650 and 700 locations.The business currently employs over 14,000 staff.
Customers at the affected stores can expect “special reductions” as the locations prepare to close their doors. Poundland’s retail director, Darren MacDonald, stated: “We certainly know how disappointing it is indeed when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we’re resolute to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers.”
He added, “Thes special reductions, on top of the value we offer day-in-day-out across our wider network, will help us leave these locations with pride. And when our doors close in these locations, we’ll look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we’ll continue to operate right across the UK.”
