UCV Students Boost Well-being of Huaraz Seniors with “Tell Stories” Program
Huaraz, Peru – Over 100 older adults in Huaraz benefited from a program designed to foster social connection and cognitive health earlier this month. The “Tell Stories to Older Adults” initiative, held at the Nicrupampa health center, provided entertainment, stimulation, and vital support to seniors in the Independencia district.
Organized in the first days of September, the event was a collaborative effort between the District Municipality of Independencia’s Comprehensive Center for the Elderly (CIAM) and the reading club of the Culture, Sports and Leisure area of the César Vallejo University (UCV) Huaraz campus. Led by Engineer Mónica Félix Luciani, the UCV reading club provided key support for the program, which aimed to preserve cultural heritage, promote empathy, reduce stress, and improve self-esteem among participants.
The multifaceted activity offered a valuable prospect for seniors to share experiences and remain actively engaged, contributing to their overall emotional and mental well-being. Participants also received provisions to further encourage their involvement in ongoing CIAM workshops. The program underscores a growing recognition of the importance of social and cognitive engagement for healthy aging and highlights the positive impact of intergenerational collaboration within the Huaraz community.
