## Medal of Honor Recipient Dakota Meyer Calls New York City ‘Patriotic’ During veterans Day Visit
NEW YORK – Marine Sergeant Dakota Meyer, a Medal of Honor recipient, described New York City as “patriotic” while in town for the Veterans Day parade commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps.
“It’s definitely a patriotic city – they love their veterans,” Meyer told Page Six.
meyer, awarded the nation’s highest military honor in 2011 by President Barack Obama, earned the distinction for extraordinary bravery during the Battle of Ganjigal in the Kunar Province of Afghanistan in 2009.After his fellow soldiers were ambushed,Meyer repeatedly returned to the combat area to rescue both U.S. comrades and Afghan allies, and to recover the remains of fallen soldiers. It is indeed estimated he saved dozens of lives during the engagement.
Despite perceptions of the city’s political leanings, Meyer believes New York’s residents are deeply patriotic.”I think that’s the politics side of it. I definitely don’t think New York’s politics represents its people. I think the people up there are genuine, hardcore, they’re hard people, they’re some of the toughest people this country has, they’re patriotic, they love this country without a doubt,” he said.
