Exposure is also possible for passengers who travelled on a Cold Shot Bus Company route from Calgary to Red Deer to Edmonton, departing Calgary at 6:20 p.m. On March 10 and arriving in Edmonton at 10:30 p.m. The route continued from Edmonton to Grande Prairie, departing at 11:50 p.m. And arriving on March 11 at 4:30 a.m.

Specific Cold Shot Bus Company terminals have also been identified as potential exposure locations. These include the Calgary terminal at 1313 44 Ave. N.E. Individuals born in or after 1970 who have fewer than two documented doses of measles-containing vaccine or have never had measles are considered at risk. Those who may have been exposed are advised to monitor for symptoms, which include a fever of 38.3° C or higher, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that typically begins behind the ears and on the face, spreading down the body. The rash may appear red and blotchy on lighter skin tones, or purple or darker than surrounding skin on darker skin tones, and may be difficult to see.

Individuals experiencing these symptoms are urged to stay home and call the measles hotline at 1-844-944-3434 before visiting any healthcare facility. The measles vaccine is available free of charge through Alberta’s publicly funded immunization program, with a recommended schedule of two doses, at one year and 18 months of age. Individuals unsure of their immunization status can call the hotline to check eligibility and book an appointment. Those 14 years of age and older can also check their immunization history using My Health Record. Texting ‘Measles’ to 88111 provides access to additional health information.
