Leipzig will once again be a focal point for cosplay enthusiasts this weekend as the Leipziger Cosplay Wettbewerb takes center stage on Saturday, March 21, 2026. The competition, a highlight of the Manga Comic Con, will be held on the Große Bühne in Halle 5, beginning at 2:30 PM and concluding with the awards ceremony from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
This year’s competition has already reached full capacity, with all 23 participant slots and 10 places on the waiting list filled as of January 16, 2026, according to organizers. Participants will present their elaborate costumes and performances before a live audience.
The Leipziger Cosplay Wettbewerb attracts a diverse range of cosplayers, imitating characters from anime, manga, and video games. The event provides a platform for fans to showcase their creativity and craftsmanship, with participants investing significant time and resources into their creations. The Manga Comic Con, where the competition is held, draws hundreds of cosplayers to the city each year, fostering a vibrant community.
Michael Deske, a cosplayer attending the event, noted the unique atmosphere of the Leipziger Buchmesse, stating, “I find it super that book fair visitors and cosplayers share this event.” The competition isn’t simply about replicating a gaze; it’s about embodying a character through costume, makeup, and performance, a practice known as cosplay.
A jury of four will evaluate the entries, judging them on craftsmanship, accuracy, and performance. Winners will be announced in categories for individuals, pairs, and groups. The 2025 competition saw a strong showing of talent, with winners recognized across these categories.
The Leipziger Cosplay Wettbewerb is part of the larger Manga Comic Con, which takes place within the Leipziger Buchmesse. The event is wheelchair accessible and offers a dedicated space for fans of comic and manga genres.
