Halo Infinite Growth Concludes After Four Years, Halo Studios Shifts Focus
November 16, 2023 – Active development on Halo Infinite will end on November 18th, marking a significant shift for Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) just four years after the game’s initial release in 2021. The announcement arrives alongside the launch of “Operation: Infinite,” which the studio confirms will be the final major update for the title.
Originally envisioned as the start of a ten-year saga for Master Chief, Halo Infinite‘s development cycle is concluding well before that timeframe. Halo Studios stated, “Operation: Infinite might potentially be the last major update currently planned for Halo Infinite, but we’re fully committed to supporting players with exciting challenges, ranked rewards, and community events throughout next year and beyond.”
The studio is now redirecting its resources to in-development projects, including Halo: Campaign Evolved. In a statement, the team expressed gratitude for player support, highlighting “a legendary run of Seasons, Events, Fractures, and Operations, with plenty of maps, modes, sandbox additions, Forge tool upgrades, and unbelievable memories along the way.” They added, “Your excitement is the lodestar for our every effort.”
“Operation: Infinite” will introduce 2X boosts on Career Rank and SP, a 100-tier Operation Pass, eight earnable armour sets, new Ranked Seasons, and over 200 new customisations available in The Exchange.
The news follows the recent departure of Halo art director Glenn israel, who left the studio after 17 years and posted a message hinting at internal discontent. Israel‘s exit occurred amidst wider layoffs impacting Microsoft and Xbox earlier this year.
