A 43-year-old man is hospitalized with serious injuries after a collision with a truck on Loitzer Straße in Demmin, Germany, on Wednesday, March 19th, 2026. The incident, reported to the Neubrandenburg Police Headquarters at approximately 4:56 p.m., involved a car driven by the man crossing into oncoming traffic.
According to police reports, the driver was operating a passenger vehicle on Loitzer Straße when he veered into the opposite lane, allegedly under the influence of alcohol. A subsequent collision with an oncoming truck – a tractor-trailer – resulted in the driver becoming trapped within his vehicle. The Demmin Volunteer Fire Department was required to extricate him, and he was then transported to Demmin Hospital for treatment.
A 16-year-old passenger in the car sustained minor injuries in the crash. The truck driver was uninjured. Preliminary breathalyzer tests indicated an alcohol level of 2.87 per mille in the car driver’s system, prompting a mandatory blood sample collection and the immediate confiscation of his driver’s license.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were deemed non-operational, requiring removal from the scene. Authorities estimate the total material damage to be approximately 25,000 euros. Special traffic surveillance units were deployed to analyze the truck’s tachograph data as part of the ongoing accident investigation.
Loitzer Straße was fully closed to traffic for over three hours, from the time of the incident until approximately 8:14 p.m., to facilitate the investigation and rescue operations. All individuals involved in the accident are German citizens, according to police.
