RCMP Urge Public to Avoid 911 as Ostrich Farm Dispute Escalates
Teh Royal Canadian Mounted Police (GRC) are requesting that supporters of Global ostrich farm refrain from overwhelming emergency lines as a potential cull of the farm’s 400 ostriches looms. The RCMP affirms it is not the organization responsible for carrying out the order. The request comes as the farm owners prepare a final appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada to halt the scheduled slaughter.
Universal Ostrich has been locked in a legal battle with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (acia) since December 2024, when the agency ordered the birds culled following an avian flu outbreak that resulted in the deaths of 69 ostriches. The owners contend their herd is healthy and has developed collective immunity, a claim rejected by the federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal.
