ROME – Italian singer and actor Adriano Celentano has retained the services of prominent lawyer Giulia Bongiorno to address what he describes as ongoing “speculation” regarding his paternity, following a recent interview with Antonio Maria Segatori. Segatori, 55, claimed in the Italian magazine Oggi that Celentano is his father and has filed a legal claim seeking official recognition.
Celentano addressed the situation in a post on his social media accounts, stating, “First the presumed mother, now the presumed son.” He referenced a similar claim made decades ago, stating, “About half a century ago, a dust-up was raised by a woman who claimed I was the father of her son. That much-vaunted legal action against me came to nothing.”
According to reporting from ANSA, Celentano’s decision to involve Bongiorno is intended to “shield himself from any further speculation.” He continued in his social media post, “Today, a fifty-year-old manages to get into the spotlight by dredging up the same story and publicly declaring himself my presumed son. At this point, I believe it is right to grant a mandate to lawyer Giulia Bongiorno to protect me from any further speculation.”
Segatori’s claim is not entirely new to the Italian legal system. Oggi reported that Segatori filed a petition with the Civil Court of Milan seeking a judicial declaration of paternity. His mother previously presented a similar petition to a court in Rome in 1975, but the case was dismissed due to the woman’s failure to appear.
Celentano responded to Segatori’s claims with a degree of irony, reportedly stating, “Dear Antonio, I’m sorry to contradict you, unfortunately I am not your father” and adding, “The truth is, I am your grandfather.”
The case follows a recent situation involving Raffaella Carrà, where a claim of adoption sparked similar public interest. As of today, the Civil Court of Milan has not announced a hearing date regarding Segatori’s petition, and Bongiorno’s office has not released a statement outlining their legal strategy.
