Animation dominated the top spots on major streaming platforms this weekend, with new animated series leading charts on both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, while Disney+ saw its top film become a family favorite.
Netflix’s most-watched series is “Steel Ball Run,” the sixth season of “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.” The anime, set in the 19th century, follows former jockey Johnny Joestar and outlaw Gyro Zeppeli as they compete in a cross-continent horse race. The series is now available in English for an international audience.
Amazon Prime Video’s top series is “Invincible,” created by Robert Kirkman of “The Walking Dead” fame. Despite its cartoonish visual style, the display is known for its violence and complex exploration of a father-son relationship, centering on a teen superhero who inherits powers from his father, Omni-Man. The show is currently in its fourth season.
Disney+’s most popular movie is “Zootopia 2” (or “Zootropolis 2” in some markets), the sequel to the 2016 hit. The film, featuring the return of fox Nick Wilde and bunny Judy Hopps, has garnered a 95% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The story follows the duo as they attempt to solve a case that threatens their city and has been praised for its witty dialogue and action sequences.
According to data from Statista, the number of streaming service users in the U.S. Is predicted to reach nearly 202.6 million by 2027, up from over 182.26 million in 2025. Streaming bundles, such as those offered by Disney+ with Hulu and ESPN+, are becoming increasingly popular as a way to manage costs.
Disney+ has expanded its library in recent years, adding content from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and Hulu, including shows like “Daredevil: Born Again” and “Andor.” The platform similarly offers a cheaper, ad-supported plan.
