MSAC Roll Call: Attendance & Members – Josh Zakim Chair

Josh Zakim, former Boston City Councilor, has been appointed chair of the Massachusetts Sports Action Commission (MSAC). The appointment was noted in a roll call record from a recent MSAC meeting, listing Zakim as “Chair, MSAC Chair” and indicating his presence at the session. President of the Senate Barry R. Finegold was as well listed as in attendance. Zakim’s selection to lead the commission follows his departure from the Boston City Council in January 2020, after serving three terms. During his time on the Council, he chaired the Committee on Housing & Community Development, the Committee on Civil Rights and the Special Committee on Transportation, Infrastructure, Planning, & Investment. He focused on issues including housing, transportation, compact business growth, civil rights, and fiscal policy, often partnering with other municipalities and state government. Prior to his time in elected office, Zakim worked as an attorney, first at Greater Boston Legal Services representing families facing foreclosure, and later at the law firm Mintz Levin focusing on municipal bond transactions. He also ran for Massachusetts Secretary of State in 2018, campaigning on improving voter access and civic engagement. Currently, Zakim operates Zakim Strategies, a consulting firm where he serves as Founder & Principal. His firm’s website highlights his experience navigating government at the city, state, and federal levels, and his ability to persuade policymakers. He is also the Executive Director of Housing Forward MA, an organization focused on housing policy. The MSAC’s current activities and goals under Zakim’s leadership have not been publicly detailed. The roll call record does not indicate the purpose of the meeting where his chairmanship was noted, and further information regarding the commission’s agenda is currently unavailable.
