Red Storm Entertainment to End Game Development, 105 Jobs Lost | Ubisoft Layoffs

Ubisoft is ending game development at Red Storm Entertainment, its North Carolina studio, resulting in the loss of 105 positions, according to a source at the company. The layoffs are part of a broader global savings plan for Ubisoft, which aims to realize €200 million in savings.

While game development will cease, Red Storm will remain operational, shifting its focus to supporting the Snowdrop engine – Ubisoft’s proprietary game engine – as well as providing IT and customer relations services. The studio, founded in 1996, has long been associated with the Tom Clancy’s franchise, notably the Ghost Recon series and more recently developed Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, released in 2023.

Recent projects at Red Storm, including an unreleased Splinter Cell VR game cancelled in 2022 and Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, cancelled in 2024, have been discontinued. Ubisoft has implemented prior rounds of layoffs at Red Storm, in July 2025 and August 2024, signaling a sustained restructuring effort.

Red Storm Entertainment operated as part of Ubisoft’s “Creative Network,” a structure of studios supporting the company’s five “Creative Houses.” In January, Marie-Sophie de Waubert, SVP of Studio Operations, described the Creative Houses as having “allocated resources” and the autonomy to define their development roadmaps, with Ubisoft headquarters acting as a central allocator of capital. The Creative Network and Core Services were positioned as supportive structures for these houses.

The company initiated a voluntary redundancy program at its headquarters in January, alongside a mandate for employees to return to full-time office work, which prompted a worker strike. Departing employees from Red Storm will receive comprehensive support, including severance packages, according to the Ubisoft source.
