Asantehene Charges New Ghana High Commissioner to India to Prioritize tech Transfer to KNUST, nation
Kumasi, Ghana – The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has directly tasked Ghana’s newly appointed High Commissioner to India, Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, with securing technological advancements for the country, with a specific emphasis on benefiting Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the broader Kumasi region. The directive came during a special send-off lunch held in honour of Professor Obiri-danso following his appointment.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II highlighted india’s status as a technologically advanced nation and urged Professor Obiri-Danso to leverage his new position to acquire resources for Ghana. “Now, I am giving him some assignments. Listen, you know the state of the university as we call it. India has technology. Please, make sure that my university benefits. Make sure that Kumasi benefits. Make sure that Ghana benefits. And thus, that is the charge to him,” the Asantehene stated.
The call for focused technology transfer builds on previous discussions with Professor Obiri-Danso, who, as former Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, has already identified potential areas of collaboration. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed confidence in the High Commissioner’s ability to deliver, noting, “he’s been talking to me previously, and he spoke to me also about certain things, and he’s noted that the university can benefit from India, and Ghana can benefit from India.So I know he’s not going to let me down, he’s not going to let Ghana down.”
Beyond KNUST, the Asantehene also anticipates benefits for ghana’s agricultural sector through strengthened ties with India.He revealed having had private conversations with Professor obiri-Danso regarding these opportunities,reinforcing his belief in the High Commissioner’s commitment to national growth.
