Qualcomm CEO Hails Unified android Vision for PCs as “Amazing”
HONOLULU,HI – December 6,2023 - During the Snapdragon Summit 2023,Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon publicly lauded Google’s ongoing efforts to unify its operating systems,specifically praising a forthcoming version of Android designed to run natively on PCs. Amon stated he has “seen” the project and found it “amazing,” believing it aligns with a vision of convergence between mobile and PC computing.
the proclamation builds on Google’s previously stated goal of merging Android and ChromeOS into a single platform, aiming to create a consistent experience across smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Rick Osterloh, google’s SVP of devices and Services, confirmed the project’s intent to “build a common technical basis for our products on PC and office computer systems” and deliver “very rich computer experiences in all categories.”
Google intends to integrate its Gemini AI models natively into the PC version of Android, leveraging AI as a key differentiator, particularly in the laptop market currently dominated by Apple’s iPad.Amon hinted at the potential for this unified Android to power future laptops equipped with Snapdragon chips, as well as Google’s rumored Pixel Laptop.
