Two Brothers Die from Electric Shock While Installing Flagpole in Southern Chile
Licán Ray, Araucanía, Chile – Two brothers, ages 13 and 15, died Tuesday after suffering an electric shock while attempting too install a flagpole in the Challupen sector, between Villarrica and Licán Ray. The incident occurred as the boys were preparing to display a flag in observance of upcoming national holidays.
The tragedy highlights the dangers of working near power lines and underscores the importance of professional assistance for installations. The deaths have deeply impacted the local community and prompted an inquiry by authorities. Their mother,also injured in the incident,remains hospitalized.
According to reports from Radio Bío Bío, the mast the brothers were erecting came into contact with electrical cables, resulting in the fatal discharge.Emergency services were instantly dispatched to the scene.
The younger brother was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Licán Ray health center.His 15-year-old brother was transported to Villarrica Hospital in critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The boys’ mother also sustained an electric shock and is currently receiving medical care at Villarrica Hospital. Her condition has not been released.
The Homicide Brigade, criminal Investigation brigade, and an electromechanical specialist from the PDI (Investigative Police) are conducting an investigation to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the accident.
