Dune: Awakening Offers Unrestricted Free Weekend, Discounted Purchase Following Player Drop
Arrakis awaits – with no time limits. dune: Awakening, the open-world survival game set on Frank Herbert’s iconic desert planet, will host a free weekend on steam starting September 9th, offering unrestricted access to all game content.this follows a previous free trial in August that limited playtime to 10 hours.
The free weekend coincides with the release of “Chapter 2,” a major update for the game. Players who log in during the event will receive an exclusive mural for their base, titled Arrakis is created. Following the free weekend, Dune: Awakening will be available for purchase with a 20% discount from September 11th to September 22nd.
this push comes as the game has experienced declining player numbers and increasingly negative Steam reviews. Current player counts hover around 20,000 (as of September 8th, according to SteamDB). Recent criticism centers on a perceived lack of engaging endgame content, leading to player disappointment. Funcom, the game’s developer, previously offered a free trial on August 21st, seemingly in an effort to boost player engagement and improve it’s Steam rating, which has recently fallen to 53% positive.
