The Puy du Fou, a historical theme park in the Vendée region of France, is preparing to reopen on April 4th, and French radio station Hit West is offering listeners a chance to win a family trip to the park. The contest, running daily in the morning show “Le Réveil de l’West” between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM, requires participants to text “REVEIL” to 71 0 71 (at a cost of €0.75 plus standard SMS charges).
The prize includes accommodation at the park itself for a family of four, allowing extended access to the attractions. Puy du Fou has been repeatedly recognized as the world’s best theme park, according to promotional materials, and offers a blend of historical spectacles and immersive experiences.
The park’s attractions span multiple eras of French history, from ancient Rome and the Viking age through the medieval period and up to the 20th century. Experiences include large-scale historical shows, recreated villages, and animal performances, notably featuring birds of prey. According to a report from February 2026, the park is also adapting stage technology pioneered by the Dutch musical Soldaat van Oranje, with the opening of a new venue featuring rotating audience seating, similar to the StageAround system used in the Netherlands.
In 2022, the park and its historical interpretations were the subject of scrutiny in the book “Le Puy du Faux – Enquête sur un parc qui déforme l’histoire” (The Puy du Faux – Investigation into a park that distorts history), written by four historians specializing in different historical periods. The authors examined the park’s presentations, arguing that the history presented was “reinterpreted” or even “idealized.” Florian Besson, a medievalist and one of the book’s authors, expressed concern that the park’s presentations could influence students who visit as part of educational trips, and noted potential political undertones in some of the park’s shows, specifically referencing the spectacle on Clovis, the first king of the Franks.
The park’s “Mousquetaire de Richelieu” show is scheduled to undergo changes, with details to be revealed on April 4th, according to a recent social media post. Hit West is promoting the reopening and contest on its platforms.
