USC Women’s Volleyball Standout Leah Ford Earns Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week Honors
Los Angeles – USC Women’s Volleyball freshman Leah Ford has been recognized as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced monday. Ford secured the honor following a dominant performance that bolstered the Trojans‘ defensive efforts during the week of September 1.
This recognition highlights Ford’s immediate impact on the USC program as it transitions into the Big Ten Conference. The Trojans joined the Big Ten this fall after decades in the Pac-12, seeking a new competitive landscape. Ford’s award signifies USC’s ability to attract and develop top-tier talent capable of excelling against the nation’s best. The weekly award acknowledges outstanding contributions to team success and sets a high standard for future performances as USC navigates its inaugural Big Ten season.
Ford’s defensive prowess was also recognized later in the season, earning her a second Big Ten Defensive Player of the week award on November 24, 2025.
Other USC players earning weekly Big Ten accolades in 2024 included Mia Tuaniga, named Setter of the Week on September 23 and November 4; Jadyn Livings, recognized as Freshman of the Week on September 23; Ally Batenhorst, earning Player of the Week honors on November 4; Reese Messer, securing Freshman of the Week on September 22, October 27, and November 3 (co-Setter of the Week); London Wijay, named Player of the Week on October 20 and November 3; Taylor Deckert, earning Freshman of the Week on October 20; and Abigail Mullen, recognized as Freshman of the week on November 10.
