Title: New York Mets Roster Shakeup Predicted for 2026

Mets Could Explore Trade of Outfielder Brandon Nimmo This Offseason

FLUSHING, NY – Despite being a cornerstone of the New York Mets’ lineup and‍ a beloved figure in the clubhouse, outfielder Brandon Nimmo could be a trade candidate‌ this offseason, according to MLB insider jon Heyman.⁤ The potential move⁢ comes as the Mets evaluate important changes following a disappointing second-half collapse and a need to reshape the roster under new General Manager‌ David Stearns.

Nimmo, the longest-tenured mets player, joined the association‍ in 2011 and debuted ‍in 2016. He has consistently been one of New ⁢York’s top ‍offensive performers, posting a .262 average ⁢with a .760 OPS, 25 home runs, and 92 RBIs this season. Though, ⁢his defensive limitations ‍in left field, coupled with ‌the team’s ⁣overall need for roster adjustments, have opened the door to trade discussions.

During an October 1 live stream ‍with Bleacher report, Heyman argued that Nimmo’s contract ‍makes him a viable trade asset.”You could trade Nimmo, who’s⁣ pretty average ‍defensively in left field, outstanding in the‌ clubhouse, great hitter. But I could see [him getting traded]. his contract is tradable,” Heyman ⁤said.

Nimmo is currently in the second year of an eight-year, $162 million contract extension signed in December 2022, leaving five⁢ years remaining on the deal. While his positive impact ‍on team chemistry is widely acknowledged -⁢ notably in light of recent questions ⁣about the Mets’ locker room surroundings – Stearns may be compelled to consider all options as⁢ he seeks ‍to rebuild the team.

Adding a layer of complexity,⁣ Nimmo⁢ possesses a no-trade clause, meaning ⁣he woudl need to approve any potential destination.‌ This could substantially ‍limit the Mets’ ability to move the outfielder, even if they determine a trade is in their best interest.
