Devon Village Roads Repaired Ahead of Harry Potter Filming
LUSTLEIGH,DEVON – Potholes on Wreyland Path,a lane in the Devon village of Lustleigh, are being repaired thanks to a filming company working on the new Harry Potter television series. Devon County Council highways granted permission for the repairs, which will be carried out by an approved contractor who will manually fill large potholes and assess further work needed. The path will remain open during the repairs.
The unexpected roadwork has drawn attention from villagers, who noted the swift action contrasts wiht previous delays in addressing local road maintenance. “Can fix potholes for filming but not for everyday use,” one resident commented on Facebook, reflecting a sentiment echoed by others who questioned why repairs weren’t prioritized before the arrival of the production. Some villagers have jokingly suggested the situation could inspire a new book title: “Harry Potter and the potholes.”
Wreyland Path, characterized by stone walls and thatched cottages, is currently being used as a filming location for the upcoming Harry Potter series, codenamed “Brown Cat.” The production previously filmed in Cadgwith, Cornwall, where actor Dominic McLaughlin was photographed in costume as Harry Potter.
The Lustleigh parish council maintains a volunteer team for minor pothole repairs and a “Lustleigh pothole tracker” spreadsheet for larger issues, which are reported to the county council when exceeding 4cm deep and 30cm wide. Local tourism businesses anticipate the series, slated for release in 2027, will provide an economic boost to the South West of England.
