Quebec Rock Icon Breen Leboeuf, 76, Performs Despite recent Arm Fracture
MONTREAL – Despite suffering a broken arm at Montreal Airport, veteran Quebec rocker Breen Leboeuf delivered a moving performance on August 25, honoring both the music of offenbach and the memory of his late friend, singer Gerry Boulet. Leboeuf, known for his energetic stage presence, fulfilled his commitment to the show, adapting to perform without his usual bass.
The concert, described as a nostalgic spectacle, featured renditions of Offenbach‘s greatest hits, including “I sing like a coyote, ayoye,” “Two other beers,” “Douce of sweet blues,” “Judge and assassin,” “when a rocker,” and ”Rock de V’lours.” the performance also included emotionally resonant interpretations of “The voice I have” and “My blues are able to in ‘door,” wich evoked a powerful response from the audience, including one of Gerry Boulet’s daughters.
Leboeuf was supported by four musicians, including Jean Boudreau, who stepped in on bass following Leboeuf’s accident. Superb archive photos were displayed on a giant screen throughout the evening. The artist demonstrated mastery in revisiting the broad repertoire of the iconic Quebec rock band,a group many consider the largest in the province’s history.
The show served as a tribute to Gerry Boulet, who originally interpreted many of Offenbach’s melodies on stage and passed away on July 18, 1990.Leboeuf’s performance of the songs was seen as a way to honour his friend’s legacy.
Leboeuf is continuing his My blues go in ’door tour across Quebec, with upcoming dates in Gatineau (September 17), Drummondville (September 20), Saint-Eustache (September 25), and Quebec City (October 3).
