Tilly Norwood: The AI Star & Her Rise to Fame | Forbes, TheWrap & More

A bizarre music video featuring the AI-generated “actor” Tilly Norwood, complete with flamingoes and a Tilly-themed airplane, dropped this week as the digital creation continues to navigate a contentious reception within the entertainment industry.

The video, for Norwood’s song “Take the Lead,” attempts to address the backlash against AI’s increasing presence in Hollywood, with lyrics urging actors to “build your own” AI avatars “to be free.” The release follows a year of controversy surrounding Norwood, created in 2025 by Xicoia, the AI division of Particle6 Group, a production company founded by Eline Van der Velden.

Norwood’s debut sparked immediate condemnation from actors and unions, including SAG-AFTRA, raising concerns about personality rights and the potential impact on production costs. A press release announcing interest from talent agencies in representing Norwood further fueled the debate. The character’s creation and subsequent promotion have ignited a wider discussion about the role of artificial intelligence in the creative arts.

Particle6 has claimed that utilizing AI actors like Norwood could reduce production costs by as much as 90%. Van der Velden, previously known for her satirical character Miss Holland, has stated her intention for Norwood to grow a major celebrity, comparable to Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman, and suggested audiences prioritize story over the authenticity of performers.

The initial project featuring Norwood, “AI Commissioner,” received criticism from reviewers at publications including The Guardian, PC Gamer, and The A.V. Club. Despite the negative reception, Norwood has amassed a significant online presence, gaining 50,000 followers on Instagram by October 2025, showcasing AI-generated images and scenes.

The release of “Take the Lead” has reignited the debate, with the video’s surreal imagery and message prompting further discussion about the ethical and practical implications of AI actors. The song includes a verse stating, “AI’s not the enemy, it’s the key.”

As of Friday, March 20, 2026, representatives for SAG-AFTRA have not issued a statement regarding the music video. Particle6 has not announced any further projects featuring Tilly Norwood.
