Los Angeles – Theane evangelis, a partner at Gibson Dunn and recently named one of the Top 100 Lawyers in California, was profiled in the Daily Journal today, highlighting her skill in navigating high-pressure legal challenges. The article details her rapid response to a critical situation facing the City of Los Angeles earlier this year.
In May, wiht an evidentiary hearing looming, Los angeles officials contacted Evangelis just days before a hearing regarding allegations that the city was failing to meet its commitments to address homelessness. The L.A. Alliance for Human Rights sought a federal judge to appoint a receiver to oversee the program.
“I live for cases like this,” Evangelis told the daily Journal. “there’s nothing like the adrenaline rush of getting that call and jumping right in.”
Evangelis and her team swiftly prepared for a week-long trial, completing months of work in a matter of weeks. She delivered the opening and closing arguments and successfully argued motions, including preventing the compelled testimony of the mayor and other city officials. “And the court agreed with us and declined to impose a receiver,” she stated. “It was a whirlwind and a roller coaster. I’m vrey proud of our work.”
Evangelis serves as Co-chair of Gibson Dunn’s global litigation Practice Group and is recognized as a leading litigator nationwide. Her practice encompasses a broad range of federal and state court cases, and she has secured victories in important appeals, including before the U.S. Supreme Court.
