Trieste, Italy – A new theatrical production, “Suez – The Door of Trieste,” premieres Tuesday, September 30th at the Slovenian Stabile Theatre, offering a unique blend of history and irony centered around the pivotal role of Trieste in global trade. The performance, conceived and performed by Sara Alzetta, Paolo Rumiz, and Ariella Reggio, explores the radical conversion of trafficking and trade following the opening of the Suez Canal.
Rumiz highlights the epochal shift, noting how the canal restored centrality to the Mediterranean and fueled significant financial speculation. He emphasizes the project’s deep connection to Triestine history, specifically how it radically altered the port’s role and projected it into intercontinental traffic. The production aims for a light tone, even featuring a fictional dialog set “in the honest!” according to Rumiz.
The show also incorporates sound and videomapping created by students from the Tartini Conservatory’s school of new technologies, designed to create an immersive experience. Funding for the project was provided by Samer & Co Shipping, following a connection facilitated by Professor Roberto Spazzali, recognizing the company’s existing commercial interests in the Mediterranean and broader investment in Trieste – including the Foresteries campus on via Locchi.
Admission is free,on a first-come,first-served basis,starting at 8:30 PM.
