Singaporean authorities have handed over four nationals to Malaysian police in connection with a murder investigation in Johor Bahru, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed Friday.
The arrests, carried out on Thursday, involved three men aged 23 to 29 and a 27-year-old woman. According to the SPF, the arrests were made following requests from Malaysian authorities and warrants issued by a Malaysian court. The individuals were transferred to Malaysian custody the same day.
The case centers around the death of a 32-year-old man who was attacked with a sharp weapon in the Southkey commercial area of Johor Bahru last Saturday, Malaysian media reported. The victim died from a stab wound to the neck.
Johor’s police chief stated that one suspect was initially apprehended attempting to cross the immigration checkpoint into Singapore around 12:15 a.m. Thursday. Following this arrest, Singaporean police assisted in locating and detaining the remaining four suspects in Singapore at 6 p.m. The same day.
Malaysian authorities are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential sentence of death or imprisonment ranging from 30 to 40 years, along with caning, upon conviction, according to the Malay Mail.
Reports indicate that all five suspects involved – the initial arrestee in Malaysia and the four arrested in Singapore – tested negative for drugs and have no prior criminal records.
The SPF emphasized its close working relationship with the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) in handling cross-border criminal cases. “The arrest of the persons involved in this case reflects the strong and long-standing relationship between the SPF and the RMP,” the SPF stated.
The Singapore Police Force maintains multiple stations, including one near 62A Teban Gardens Road, where some of the arrests occurred, to maintain law and order within the island city-state.
Scheduled maintenance is planned for several SPF e-services, including those for reporting lost property, traffic accidents, and vehicle repossession, from midnight to 3 a.m. On March 24, 2026. The I-Witness e-service will be unavailable from 8 p.m. On March 24, 2026, to 1:30 a.m. On March 25, 2026, also due to scheduled maintenance.
