Dakar, Senegal – Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye will undertake a 72-hour official visit to Spain beginning Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the invitation of His Majesty King Felipe VI. The visit, confirmed by a communiqué following the Council of Ministers meeting held Wednesday at the Presidential Palace in Dakar, signals a strategic move to bolster bilateral relations between Senegal and Spain.
The Spanish government extended the invitation to President Faye, according to announcements made during the Council of Ministers session on March 18, 2026. The trip is intended to strengthen the Dakar-Madrid axis, focusing on key areas of cooperation, regional security, and economic partnerships, officials stated.
Discussions during the three-day visit are expected to center on security concerns and migration management, with a particular emphasis on the success of recent circular migration programs. Economic investment will also be a prominent topic, reflecting a shared interest in fostering economic ties between the two nations.
President Faye informed the government of his international agenda during the March 18th Council of Ministers meeting, which took place shortly before preparations for the national holiday on April 4th. The visit to Spain is considered a significant diplomatic initiative for the newly elected Senegalese president.
The Senegalese government has not yet released a detailed itinerary for President Faye’s visit, but it is anticipated that he will hold high-level meetings with Spanish authorities to solidify the historical bonds between the two countries. No immediate response was available from the Spanish Royal Palace regarding specific arrangements for the visit as of Thursday evening.
