Ryan Reynolds: Coldplay Kiss Cam Criticism & Gwyneth Paltrow Roast

Former Astronomer Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot publicly criticized actors Gwyneth Paltrow and Ryan Reynolds this week, alleging they exploited her viral moment at a Coldplay concert for commercial gain. Cabot’s comments, made during an interview that aired Tuesday, center on an advertisement created by Reynolds’ production company, Maximum Effort, featuring Paltrow as a spokesperson for Astronomer.

The controversy stems from footage captured in August 2025 at a Coldplay concert in Foxboro, Massachusetts, where Cabot and then-CEO Andy Byron were shown on the venue’s kiss cam. The video, which quickly circulated online, depicted Byron initially embracing Cabot before appearing to retreat from the camera’s view, even as Cabot shielded her face. The incident fueled speculation about a relationship between the two, both of whom were newly separated at the time.

In response, Maximum Effort produced an ad starring Paltrow, who was previously married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. The advertisement features Paltrow responding to typed questions seemingly referencing the kiss cam incident, but quickly pivoting to promote Astronomer’s data workflow automation products. Cabot expressed her disappointment with Paltrow’s involvement, particularly given Goop’s stated mission of uplifting women. “I felt like Gwyneth, someone whose company is founded on or framed around uplifting women and women’s well-being… I don’t know why she felt she needed to throw gas on the fire and get involved in all of this,” Cabot stated, according to reports. “It just felt really hypocritical to me and unnecessary.”

Cabot was reportedly informed that Paltrow had been told both she and Byron had approved the commercial, a claim Paltrow later clarified she would not have participated in had she known Cabot was uncomfortable with the concept. Both Cabot and Byron subsequently resigned from their positions at Astronomer.

Oprah Winfrey addressed the situation during the interview, offering an apology to Cabot. The incident has sparked a wider discussion about workplace dynamics and the public scrutiny faced by individuals involved in viral moments. As of Friday, neither Paltrow nor Reynolds have publicly responded to Cabot’s recent criticisms.
