Perplexity Health: AI-Powered Health Insights from Apple Health & Medical Data

Perplexity AI has launched Perplexity Health, a new feature integrating artificial intelligence with personal health data from Apple Health, electronic health records, and wearable devices. The tool, currently available to Pro and Max subscribers in the United States on iOS and the web, aims to provide users with personalized insights based on their aggregated health information.

Perplexity Health consolidates data from multiple sources – including lab results, medications, visit histories, and metrics from wearables like Fitbit, Ultrahuman, and Withings – into a single dashboard displaying trends and metrics over time. Users can then leverage Perplexity Computer, the platform’s agentic tool, to ask health-related questions and receive answers grounded in their individual data. For example, a user could inquire about their heart rate in relation to recent physical activity, medical history, and latest bloodwork.

The platform also offers features such as personalized workout plans, pre-visit summaries, and nutritional suggestions. Responses are based on established medical literature and include citations to their sources. A Health Advisory Board, comprised of medical professionals including cardiologist Eric Topol of Scripps Research and pediatrician Wendy Chung of Harvard, oversees the clinical quality and safety of the feature, according to Perplexity.

Data security is a key concern when connecting health information to AI platforms. Perplexity states that data is encrypted both in transit and at rest, and users can disconnect and delete their data at any time. The company also asserts that user data will not be used to train its models or sold to third parties. Electronic health record data is processed through b.well Connected Health, a HIPAA-certified platform with connections to over 2.4 million healthcare providers in the U.S.

Perplexity emphasizes that Perplexity Health is not intended to provide medical diagnoses or prescriptions, and does not replace the role of a physician. The platform is designed to offer informational support based on the data provided.

The launch of Perplexity Health follows similar moves by other AI companies. ChatGPT Health integrated with Apple Health in January 2026, and Microsoft Copilot Health followed on March 12, 2026. Early reviews of ChatGPT Health reportedly identified instances where responses were not fully aligned with the data provided, a potential issue Perplexity aims to address through its reliance on verified medical literature and its clinical advisory board.

Perplexity differentiates itself through its leverage of Perplexity Computer, which coordinates multiple AI agents to cross-reference information from various sources simultaneously. The company has not yet announced plans for expansion beyond the U.S. Market.
