The Grupo Médico Santa Paula (GMSP) will host a special cytology screening event this Saturday, March 21st, offering the potentially life-saving cancer detection service for $20. The initiative aims to increase access to crucial preventative care for cervical cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women globally.
According to Dr. Daniel Márquez, a gynecologist with GMSP, the Papanicolau test and colposcopy are vital for identifying the presence of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), the primary cause of cervical cancer. Early detection through these screenings allows for timely intervention and improved treatment outcomes. “Both studies are essential to establish surveillance protocols and apply opportune treatments,” Dr. Márquez stated.
The GMSP’s efforts align with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) strategy to eradicate cervical cancer, which includes HPV vaccination, precision screening for women aged 35 to 45, and early treatment of detected lesions. When diagnosed in its initial stages, cervical cancer boasts a cure rate exceeding 90 percent, underscoring the importance of regular check-ups.
Experts recommend women begin cervical cancer screening with a Papanicolau test at age 21, or upon the commencement of sexual activity. The GMSP’s cytology day will include sample collection, results reporting, and subsequent medical consultation.
The GMSP, a member of the Keralty group, emphasizes its commitment to providing personalized and accessible healthcare with rigorous biosecurity measures. The clinic’s pathology unit utilizes advanced technology to ensure precise cellular evaluation, facilitating specialized treatment for those affected.
