HIV Cases Rise in Pangkalpinang, Prompting Government Response
PANGKALPINANG – A concerning increase in HIV/AIDS cases has prompted a response from the Pangkalpinang city government. As of September 2025, authorities have recorded 106 new HIV infections, with 20 progressing to AIDS.
Deputy mayor dessy Ayutrisna acknowledged the rising numbers, stating, “Cases in Pangkalpinang are quite high.” She indicated the local government is preparing strategic steps to curb transmission, focusing on strengthened outreach and community education.
“Prevention efforts must be carried out in an integrated manner involving various parties, including law enforcement officials, educational institutions and HIV/AIDS care communities,” Dessy explained to mediaqu.id on October 20, 2025.
A important proportion of new cases are occurring among individuals of productive age, raising concerns about the socio-economic impact. The city government plans to intensify early examinations at health facilities and expand educational programs in high-risk areas.
Dessy emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to HIV/AIDS, addressing both medical and social needs. She appealed to the public to avoid stigmatizing those living with HIV/AIDS, noting that discrimination discourages testing and treatment. “What is vital is how we are all aware of preventing, not judging,” she stressed.
The pangkalpinang City Government is committed to strengthening collaboration across sectors, implementing programs including health screenings, outreach in schools and workplaces, and support services for those infected.
“Prevention is our collective obligation. The government cannot run alone without community support,” Dessy concluded.
