“Sacré-Cœur” Film Surges to No.9 in France Despite Limited Release
Despite being screened in only 155 theaters across France, the film “Sacré-Cœur” has unexpectedly climbed to the No. 9 position at the box office,achieving this rank with just 910 screenings – significantly fewer than the 4,200 to 10,000 screenings given to the top eight films. The film, directed by Steven and Sabrina Gunnel and distributed by Saje distribution, tells the story of Saint Marguerite Marie Alacoque and devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Driven by strong audience demand and long queues, the number of theaters showing “Sacré-Cœur” has steadily increased. After accumulating 43,620 admissions by october 7, the film expanded to 223 screens during its second week. For its third week, beginning october 15, “Sacré-Cœur” will be available in over 336 theaters nationwide, including new locations in cities like Lyon, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Créteil, and Lisieux, as well as smaller towns such as Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Les Sables-d’Olonne.
The film features testimonies from individuals of diverse backgrounds about the impact of devotion to the sacred Heart. “It’s a real mystery that goes beyond us, because it goes before us,” director Steven J. Gunnell told Aleteia prior to the film’s release. “When we started production, we discovered that the Sacred Heart has been in our lives from the beginning. He has never let go of us.”
