Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez is recovering in stable condition after being stabbed in Indianapolis early Saturday morning, according to a statement released by Fox Sports.
The incident has forced Sanchez to withdraw from his scheduled broadcast assignment for Sunday’s game between the Las vegas Raiders and the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Fox Sports expressed gratitude for the medical care Sanchez is receiving and requested privacy for him and his family.
Sanchez, 38, played eight seasons in the NFL after being drafted fifth overall by the New York Jets in 2009. During his time with the Jets, he led the team to consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances in 2009 and 2010.
Following his tenure with the Jets, Sanchez also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington, with his last regular-season game appearance occurring in 2018. He transitioned to broadcasting after his playing career and currently works for Fox Sports.
“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their remarkable care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time,” Fox Sports said in its statement.
